Junior Olympic Assembly and Court

The Olympian Assembly and Court are based on Greek mythology and the events of the myth surrounding Pandora’s Box and Prometheus, the Greek Titan responsible for human creation and the God of forethought and crafty counsel. This committee will take place up in Mount Olympus after the opening of Pandora’s box and the punishment of Prometheus by Zeus. The assembly will be composed of both divine and mortal entities, seeing as the topics at hand relate to the interference of gods in mortal affairs. Around 20 individuals will attend to give their stances on the gods’ intervention in the mortal realm as well as the trial of Prometheus.
After stealing the fire from Olympus to give to humans, Prometheus was severely punished by Zeus, the god of the gods. In this committee, Prometheus will be re-judged in a trial procedure; however, this time, with the participation of humans in the assembly, providing the Titan the right to be defended in court. If Prometheus pleads guilty, delegates must find a common ground and reach a plea agreement to reduce the defendant’s punishment.

Head-Chair, Mateus Rocha
Greetings Delegates! My name is Mateus Rocha Nogueira, and I’m currently a Sophomore at Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro (Gávea Campus). I feel honored to have the privilege of chairing the Junior Olympian Assembly and Court in RIOMUN V, alongside Gustavo Teixeira. When my older brother Tiago convinced me to join MUN for the first time in 6th grade, I didn’t know what to expect. My first experience in RioMUN I was a complete disaster. I spoke about 4-5 times in the whole committee. However, I left that conference with a sense of aspiration towards MUN, and I knew from that point on that it would become an important part of my academic journey. Fast forward, here I am, having my second experience chairing. As the head chair, I have the opportunity to set the tone of the conference. That being said, be sure to expect a smooth, lighthearted, encouraging, and above all, fun environment. I cannot stress enough the idea of having fun during an MUN conference. I know that it can seem hard and scary to participate and speak, so I encourage you all to raise your placards, make points, speeches, even if they are not perfect. Take risks!!! I am eager to meet you all and get to know you guys better. If you have any doubts, questions, concerns, or even just need any help in general, please reach out to me at mateusrnog450@gmail.com
Hope to see you all soon!
Vice-Chair, Gustavo Teixeira
Hello Delegates. I am Gustavo Teixeira, a senior at EARJ Barra, and will be serving as co-chair in the Junior Special Committee, alongside Mateus Nogueira. I have been a long-time member of my school’s MUN club, being there since 6th grade.
However, my first conference was RioMUN I, in 2021, in a special committee. During my first conference, I was very nervous, and I lacked much of the experience to articulate and let my ideas flow during committee sessions. I left RioMUN with a new passion, MUN. I carried it through many conferences, trying my best to improve every opportunity given.
As one of the chairs for this conference, I hope to provide the best experience for all delegates, whether it is their first time or not, help delegates engage in the debate, have a positive impact on the delegates’ MUN journey, and have an enthusiastic yet respectful debate. This committee should be a learning opportunity for all, including us, the chairs.
If you have any questions regarding the committee, please feel free to contact me by e-mail at teixeiragustavog@gmail.com
