Security Council

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC), is one of the six main organs of the United Nations General Assembly. It was established on the 24th of October, 1946, with a mission of maintaining international peace and security of nations on a global scale, in accordance with the UN charter. This committee consists of 15 delegations, five of them being permanent members, the P5, composed of the United States, China, Russia, United Kingdom and France. These nations hold the power to veto resolutions that they deem unfit and believe violates an article in the UN charter, furthermore, if applied, the resolution will not pass regardless of a majority vote.

The Security Council will deal with topics regarding worldwide security, tackling issues such as civil wars, terrorism and arms proliferation. Moreover, peaceful negotiations are always the objective in resolutions especially since decisions made in the Security Council have an impact on countries in a global range, e territorially, culturally and socially.

Chairs

Head-Chair, Eduardo Campos

Hello everyone, my name is Eduardo Campos, and I’m a junior at EARJ Gávea. I’m incredibly honored and excited to serve as your head chair alongside Gabriela for this edition of RioMUN.

I began my MUN journey two years ago, feeling nervous and unsure about public speaking. I never imagined that those first steps would ignite a true passion and shape such a meaningful part of my high school experience.

As your chair, my main goal is to foster a respectful, engaging, and collaborative space where every delegate feels empowered to speak up and contribute. Whether you’re stepping into committee for the first time or are a returning delegate, I believe we all have something to learn from each other — and together, we can craft insightful and impactful resolutions.

If you have any questions or need support at any point, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at duducampos2009@gmail.com or contact Gabriela. We’re here to help.

Vice-Chair, Gabriella Ribenboim

Hello, everyone!

I am Gabriella Ribenboim, a Sophomore at TBSRJ Urca, and it's with great pleasure that I'll be serving as a chair in this year’s RioMUN, in the Security Council. This past year, I fell in love with MUN and the skills it gives you for life, as it is not only a great way of meeting extraordinary people, but also improving your public speaking and confidence. Outside this world of debating and drafting resolutions, I love binge-watching TSITP and Gilmore Girls, but you can also find me enjoying Japanese food with my friends. I hope you all look forward to this conference as much as I do; I'm excited to meet you all.

And if any doubts arise, don't hesitate to contact me at gribenboim@gmail.com.
