Junior Security Council
The (Junior) Security Council is one of the six main bodies of the United Nations and has the purpose of maintaining international security and peace through diplomacy; through sanctions, peacekeeping operations, and military action, for instance. It originally has fifteen member States, including the five permanent ones and possible observers. Those five hold the power to veto any resolution given the reason that it impacts their nation (China, United States, United Kingdom, Russia, and France), and the others are elected each year with a term of 2 years. Due to its pertinent influence in the world, its voted resolutions demand the respective actions from member countries; this is according to Article 25 of the UN Charter. Since it is the only committee that is not only able to recommend but also to urge, the clauses in Security Council resolutions can indicate immediate action. Some of these clauses include “urges” and “decides.”

Ana Luiza Braga, Head Chair
Isadora Demoro, Vice-Chair
My name is Isadora Demoro, I am a freshman at The British School of Rio de Janeiro and am thrilled to be chairing alongside Ana Luiza. MUN has always been a passion of mine since my brothers first introduced it to me. In light of that, I aim to create the safe environment I was given where delegates feel comfortable and at liberty to excel during debates, fostering friendships and life values only MUN can teach. Outside of MUN, I adore listening to music, making scrapbooks, and binge-watching way too many shows such as The Office or Modern Family. As a person, I enjoy sunsets and making people smile, so I come to this conference with an open heart. Therefore, do not hesitate to contact me if there are any doubts or concerns at isademoro@gmail.com, thank you!
